Mission 004 Report: Extraction

Here’s the original mission and the mid-Month update:

Mission 004: Limited Insertion, Maximum Entendre

Mission 004 Update: Tip of the Spear

Feedback Summary

This month we got five Bakunin commanders writing in with their thoughts. We’re also lucky to get not one, not two, but five battle reports this month! Thanks to Valmiir, Jhokalups, and Desanges for taking the time to write up their games! This is a nice filling of the void in our Bakunin coverage this month, so thanks to everyone for writing and helping to cover this deficiency!

Unsurprisingly, the Riot Grrl core featured heavily in all of our feedback this month, as they are an extremely high quality HI link with lots of options.

Also, Victor made the comment that he likes a 3-model Core over a 5-model core in LI, which is something that we’ve been advocating for awhile. The Taskmaster Red Fury also featured heavily as a great LI Lieutenant. Some notes, using our framework:

  • Passive Board Control – The Taskmaster comes with Koalas, which can help keep stuff away from him as he advances, or out of your DZ. Some of our Bakunin commanders were taking Minelayer Zeros for this as well.
  • Face Punching – Riot Grrl link does a great job at this, as does the Kusanagi Haris or Taskmasters that made an appearance in many of the lists below.
  • Spot Removal – Some of our commanders took the Uberfall as a spot removal tool, and Kusanagi can thread the needle and take out something important. Bran also got some work done, in a defensive role!
  • Flexible Specialists – This was where we saw the most variety. Zoe and Pi Well were definitely praised by some of our commandos, as was Avicenna. Our workhorse specialists, the Zeros and Prowlers are a good place to look for this as well.

Thanks for reading, and hope to hear from you all next month!

This month’s winner is Victor, who wins a blister of his choice! Victor, I’ll be in touch to set that up with you. Thanks to everyone for writing in! — WiseKensai

Victor

Hi,

I’ve been reading your posts and infinity the tactics for some months by now, and finally I decided to collaborate with our beloved nomad nation 🙂

First of all, I must say I love the format because I was really bored with 20 orders lists, and now matches are faster and more dynamic.

Playing with Bakunin forced me to reduce the count on Zeroes and Morlocks. This is sad because I love both of them, but opened a way to play Riot Grrls core fireteams, which turned to be great. I also replaced the Daktari with Avicena, who recovers my troops easier.

What I cannot replace is Zoe&Powell. She/it are toolboxes and the Reaktion zond, which is good both in active and reactive.

AROing is really risky in this format, as nobody wants to get a riot ML killed easily, or the Reaktion zond. Passive AROing is also difficult without Morlocks and fewer zeroes (if I want specialists I sacrifice the minelayer). Another sacrificed piece is the Sineater, because it is not a multipurpose troop.

As Morlocks are cheap I didn’t use them on my first lists. What a mistake! Now I try to fit one and upgrade something else, as they are very useful.

Mi first lists where built around a 5 women riots core fireteam, but thanks to the post about limited insertion, I tried a 3 women riots fireteam instead and I think it is better that way. This leaves two slot for troops that are not going to just follow the fireteam lead.

I usually play taskmaster LT, to add another “long” range weapon, but also because he can defend himself quite well, with two wounds, crazy koalas and pulzar.

I attach my last three LI lists, although I don’t have battle reports 🙁 let’s see if I can make a report before the end of the month.

I’ll try to play Tunguska LI and send another mail.

Best regards,
Victor (ITS nick “Juarez”)

Jhokalups – Field Operation Action Report – 6

As our area prepares to send some of our more experienced players up to Emerald City Incursion everyone has been practicing limited insertion. The list I played was a refinement of a StarCo list that I had played against Sprocket earlier, translated to Bakunin. When choosing the LT I settled on the Custodier HD+, after adding a healer, the Riot Grrl link and Zoe and Pi-Well I saw that I was a model short of a harris link of Custodiers and the Healer. In the game I definitely misplayed my reverend harris. Looking back I see a lot of missed opportunities that would have made the game easier.

I really like Pi-Well for limited insertion. He is a fast specialist that is easily buffed by a number of Bakunin hackers. When buffed it feels like he can punch well above his weight class. I will be running the Custodier HD+ and Pi-Well combo again, the ability to put him in a white noise cloud to shoot down MSV troops is a good tool kit to have available. It’s a shame that Pi-Well comes with Zoe.The regular hacking device is a bit lackluster, and I definitely did not use her effectively in this game.

The Riot Grrl core link is a favorite of mine. It brings tools for close range, long range, and the MSV1 on the base profile lets them solve a lot of annoying camo problems. I am starting to recognize that all five all the time is not always ideal in the limited insertion format. If I am facing something that the Grrls are strong against, they can dominate the field. If I position them poorly it will take almost all the orders they bring to fix it. Which defeats the order efficiency advantage that they bring. I have a variant of the list I played that trades two Riot Grrls for Bran De Castro and a KHD Zero. With all the other hackers and repeaters, I feel like a KHD could potentially protect the Riot Grrl 3 person core of Riot Grrls.

Valmiir

Hey,

I’m submitting three games from a recent Limited Insertion tournament for the mission this month:

I was playing Bakunin, and in particular in Game 3 my list had a Riot Grrl Fireteam: Core which I really loved. They’re a solid link, and the Missile Launcher profile really shined. For a long time I wasn’t big on Missile Launchers in offensive links, but this definitely changed my mind. I also took a Taskmaster Lt in all my lists. Normally I would take a Moderator Lt along with a few others as cheerleaders/decoys, but the Taskmaster was a stud in all three games. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with how Bakunin performed in Limited Insertion, especially considering how well they can do order spam for Nomads.

Piotr

Hello Again,
I generally play Bakunin and Limited Insertion is tricky there.

I have came up with an idea to play with this list:

300p LI

BRAN DO CASTRO Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 33)
ZERO Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 21)
ZERO (Deployable Repeater) Combi Rifle, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19)
PROWLER (Specialist Operative) Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower, Adhesive Launcher / Pistol, CCW. (0.5 | 33)
PROWLER (Specialist Operative) Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower, Adhesive Launcher / Pistol, CCW. (0.5 | 33)

KUSANAGI Lieutenant Spitfire / Pistol, Shock CCW. (2 | 43)
REVEREND CUSTODIER Hacker (Assault Device Plus UPGRADE: Icebreaker) Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 30)
REVEREND HEALER Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 32)

SIN-EATER HMG / Pistol, CCW. (2 | 33)
BAKUNIN ÜBERFALLKOMMANDO . (0 | 23)
CHIMERA Combi Rifle, Nanopulser, Eclipse Grenades / Viral CCW. (0 | 20)
x3 PUPNIK DA CCW. (0 | 3)

It has everything needed to fulfill objectives, decent ARO duty (Sin-Eater), two good skirmishers (Bran and Uberfalls) and a few Specialists in the midfield. Zero with Deployable Repeater is one of the possible reserves (others are Bran, Sin-Eater and Chimera) that you want to deploy near enemy TAG or HI link so that you cant disturb them easily with Custodiers AHD. AHD is there despite being less versatile than HD+ because of the common TAGs and HIs run in the format.

I was running this list at the end of the Season 9 so it was easier to have all the tools needed to fulfill all Classified Objectives but this one should be also decent in current Season when it comes to that. Also back then Kusanagi had quite a lot of Orders to spend having her Special Data Tracker order due to the B4ckd00r Crisis event.

I played 4 games with this list in our local League. Won the first 2 games vs Pano and then lost another 2 to Qapu Khalqi and Aleph.

Wanted to change the list a bit, but Season 10 came out and I didn’t manage to play with a tweaked one.

Problems I had:

  • Good positioning of the Chimera is a bit more important during the DZ, because cancelling her Impetous costs much more than in regular non-LI games.
  • Specialist Operative Prowlers are a bit too expensive to play just for the Objective clicking purpose, but it kind of puts them in versatile Specialist category – one of them
  • Immobilized a struggling Jotum in a game I have described my use of Deployable Repeater Zero profile 2 months ago which allowed me to ignore the Jotum in the last round of the game.
  • Kusanagi has Multiterrain, but Healer and Custodier don’t so playing these MI units on any difficult terrain rules (like in a Rescue mission which I faced on random during the League) is quite painful.
  • Just one ARO unit, and 5 Camo Markers casues your opponent to focus on your Haris instead.

Another idea for the list I came across somewhere was this one:

Heavy SWC Riot Grrls

RIOT GRRL Missile Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 33)
RIOT GRRL Missile Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 33)
RIOT GRRL (Specialist Operative) Combi Rifle, Blitzen, Stun Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 30)
RIOT GRRL Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 34)
RIOT GRRL Boarding Shotgun, Stun Grenades + TinBot B (Deflector L2) / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 30)

REVEREND CUSTODIER Hacker (Hacking Device Plus) Combi Rifle + Pitcher / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 34)
KUSANAGI Lieutenant MULTI Rifle + Light Flamethrower, E/M Grenades / Pistol, Shock CCW. (+1 | 44)
REVEREND HEALER Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, EXP CCW. (0 | 32)

MODERATOR Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 11)
ZERO (Minelayer) Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 19)

10 | 7 SWC | 300 Points | Open in Infinity Army

It’s called Hvy SWC for a reason. You have a full Core of Riot Grrls with 2xML, Spitfire, Spec Operative and BS Tinbot profiles. Also you have Custodier Haris with Healer and MR Lt Kusanagi which gives you extra SWC. Then there are also Moderator Paramedic and Zero Minelayer (passive board control).

The last two could possibly be exchanged for Moderator Spec-Ops and Zero KHD (to keep your Custodier and Riot Grrls safe). So you have both great ARO (2 wound models with B2 on 2x ML and Blitzen should work very well especially vs low order counts) and possibly Spec Ops with MSR.

Some face punching potential with Riot Grrls link. Spot Removal with either Kusanagi (if you can clear your way to good Multi Rifle good ranges and the target doesn’t have MSV) or Riot Grrls (basically all ranges up to 40″ with those profiles).

Also I had somewhere idea for a list including Riot Grrls Core and 3 Uberfalls, which is supposed to be very spammy list (basically 19 models on Limited Insertion – say what?).

In general LI allows Bakunin to take some less units and put them to good use – Taskmaster Duo, Riot Grrls, and maybe even Lizard that is too costly for what he has compared to some other TAGs. I like playing Limited Insertion, because it is a harder format and needs more skill to played correctly.

Best Regards,
Piotr
